Taking Care of Your Clear Aligners and the Best Way to Clean Them!

Drinks:
When the aligners are in your mouth, water is the only drink you can have. If you are a coffee or tea drinker or drink any other type of drink with a low PH level (such as juices, energy drinks, or even milk and carbonated water, etc.) you need remove the aligners, drink, and then brush and rinse before placing the aligners back in.

Eating:
Take the trays out before eating! Once you are finished eating, you will need to floss or waterpik and brush thoroughly before placing the aligners back in your mouth.

Cleaning:
After removing aligners from your mouth, gently rinse them with cool or lukewarm water. At least once a day clean them thoroughly. You can either gently brush them with a drop of mild dish detergent or use my preferred method which are denture cleanser tablets.

The best way to clean your trays:
Take a fast-acting denture cleansing tablet and place it in half a cup of lukewarm water. Soak your trays for 3-5 minutes, gently brush and rinse them off with water and your trays will be sparkly clean and fresh! Try it out and let me know if you love this method too. The great thing is that it’s also a perfect cleaning protocol for your clear retainers once you have them.

Pro-Tip:
Always carry your aligner case with you during your day. When removing your trays, always rinse them out and then place them in your case. This will prevent you from losing them or accidentally throwing them away. Trust me, it happens so easily. Avoid wrapping them ‘safely’ in a napkin because it’s super easy to discard them. Also, your pets love aligners – especially dogs! Avoid having your aligner become an expensive chew toy and keep them in your aligner case and out of reach of pets 🙂

Caution:
Exposure to extreme heats can damage, melt and/or deform the aligners. For example: leaving them in a hot car, boiling them in water to clean them and putting them in a dishwasher are all major no-no’s.
