Elastics with Clear Aligners
Did you know that you can wear elastics with clear aligners? This means that aligners can correct your bite in addition to also straightening your teeth at the same time. A functional, ideal bite is important for having healthy teeth that can last your lifetime!
Elastics are an elastic band that stretches from the top arch to the bottom arch and they are also known as rubber bands. Elastics correct your bite by helping the top and bottom teeth fit together as ideally as possible when biting.
Button Attachments:
Sometimes the button attachments are bonded to the tooth itself, or in some cases, they are directly added onto each tray. The buttons are what you attach the elastics to from the top teeth to the bottom teeth.
Wear:
– Elastics should always be worn with your clear aligners and never without your trays in your mouth.
– The aligners need to be worn 20-22 hours per day and the elastics also need to be worn for the same amount of time or as directed by your orthodontist. If you do not get enough wear time with the elastics, you might not fully correct your bite.
Wearing your aligners and elastics as directed will ensure that your treatment progress and result are ideal.
